At the end of this semester, I believe even it didn’t looks very easy to obtain a job in management field as an international student, there are still some ways we can follow to achieve the goal. As a result of investigation I had, I would argue that it would be better for international students in the business field to prepare their job application as early as they can by enhancing their networking, developing their qualities and conquering their particular disadvantages
argumentative paper
In order to have a successional and comprehensive research on the topic of finding a job as an international student in the management field, I read multiple articles about this topic at the beginning of the current project. I got several basic views regarding general environment of a recent job market, situation for international job applicants and qualifications of good employees in the management field. In addition, I spent half an hour to interview Tamara Clarkson who is an expert in this field and worked for Center for Career Opportunities at Purdue University right now. After I did interviewed with her, I learned the qualifications of employers that company looks for and things students need to develop during their college lives. At the end of this semester, I believe even it didn’t looks very easy to obtain a job in management field as an international student, there are still some ways we can follow to achieve the goal. As a result of investigation I had, I would argue that it would be better for international students in the business field to prepare their job application as early as they can by enhancing their networking, developing their qualities and conquering their particular disadvantages.
First, enhancing the networking through all kinds of way as early as we can makes it possible to find a good job in the future much more easily According to the Tamara Clarkson who I interviewed, more than 80% of jobs are actually found through networking. She still analyzed that the easiest way to get a good networking is using LinkdIn. Through LinkdIn, students can find people who are in the field that you wanted to go into, because whenever you contact with Purdue alumina who is in the field that you want to pursue, they will think of you whenever the jobs come up. They will highly recommend you whenever their supervisors think that whether you are the best fit one. It is why networking is too important to ignore. Additionally, Small (n. d.) argued that networking is the single most powerful marketing tactic to accelerate and sustain success for any individual or organization. What his meaning is networking provides the most productive, most proficient and most enduring tactic to build relationships. In order to succeed in future, we must continually connect with new people, cultivate emerging relationships and leverage our network.
Second, realizing the particular qualities that employers look for and consciously training hose abilities to perform the requirements of job in business and management field helps students be superior. From Hansen and Hansen (n. d.) every employer is looking for a specific set of skills from job seekers that match the skills necessary to perform a particular job. The website of Bureau of Labor Statistics listed few qualifications about certain capabilities that employer should satisfy in the management and business field such leadership skills, communication skills, organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Also, from the website of quint-careers, Hanse (n. d.) pointed out that most job seekers wish they could unlock the secret formula to winning the hearts and minds of employers. We can conclude as once we understand the skills and characteristics that most employer seek, we can tailor our job-search communication -- your resume, cover letter, and interview language -- to showcase how well our background aligns with common employer requirements. They also pointed out that the computer skills, the sensitivity of multicultural and such skills are small but useful. Furthermore, the ability of adaptable, dependable and the wiliness to learn are invisible values that they look for. From Cao.E (n. d.) who is a Chinese girl graduated from Purdue University as management major, great listening and questioning skills can make a person true leader.
Third, it is a fact that students who studied in another country will meet lots of difficulties, especially in the process of hunting a new job. According to International Students Guide (n. d.), international student will face a few more hurdles to clear than their American counterparts. The common disadvantages like unfamiliar with US business culture, less fluent English skill and completed process in applying Non-Immigrant Temporary Work Visa which all contributed to the difficulty that international students may experience in trying to find employment in the U.S. Being more specifically, although every country has been exposed to American culture, students will be less familiar with US business culture and recruiting practices than domestic students. If students do not speak English as a native language, they are at a distinct disadvantage communicating with recruiters. Even they couldn’t hear carefully and accurately about the question that employee asked, no matter the difficulties to express themselves completely and show how fitness they were in this job position.
However, international students also come with special advantages in the process of seeking for a job in U.S and they could conquer the problems I listed formerly by practicing and preparing early in job application. From the Job Search Strategies, for international students, foreign background also can be leveraged very effectively to set apart and differentiate students from others. The following three aspects like bilingual abilities, cultural background and period special experiences can be used as strengths to let students stand out and sold their self. As for their disadvantages in the former paragraph, student can tap into the knowledge of their American classmates and be a sponge for information from TV, movies, newspapers and colleagues to solve the difficult of unfamiliar with the American culture. Make presentations, take English courses, and work tirelessly at improving their English skills to help them figure out the problem in language. Additionally, from the Job Search Strategies For International Students, MyVisaJobs is an excellent resource for finding H1-B sponsors in the United States. Students can view reports of H1-B sponsors and view information by industry, economic sector, state and more. As conclusion as long as international student begin early to prepare for competing in the job market and take advantage from their special, it will not be a problem to seek for a good job in America.
In conclusion, even there are some disadvantages for international students in the process of application for a job in America, we still could find multiple ways to help them get a better job. Enhancing networking can help students know and find more friends and opportunities, which will probably influence their rest career journey. In addition, through realizing the particular qualities that companies look for can help students prepare to develop those specific characteristics early in the collage. Furthermore, overcoming the shortcoming that students have are keys to open the door of starting a perfect career in America. Therefore, preparing early for job application as an international student by doing those ways will help students have a good career outlook.
